Baraat Songs: The 58 Tracks Every Shaadi Band Actually Plays

Baraat songs have to do something no other playlist does: work for a brass band, a DJ and three hundred relatives at the same time, outdoors, for two hours, while a horse stands in the middle of it. This playlist runs 58 of them and plays free in the browser above.

The short version

  • What it is: 58 tracks from the actual wedding procession repertoire.
  • The mix: Bollywood dance floor, Punjabi bhangra, and a strong Marathi DJ block.
  • The guarantees: London Thumakda, Kala Chashma, Gallan Goodiyaan, Zingaat.
  • Where to hear it: the player at the top of this page. No sign-up.

What a baraat playlist has to survive

A baraat is a procession that moves at roughly the speed of a slow walk and frequently does not move at all. The groom is on a horse. Somebody's uncle has decided this is his moment. The band is walking backwards. Men are carrying fluorescent tube-light chandeliers on their heads, wired to a generator trolley being pushed along behind.

Into that, the music has to do three things at once: be danceable standing still, be recognisable to everyone from a nine-year-old to a grandmother, and be playable on a trumpet. That last constraint is the one people forget, and it quietly shapes the entire genre of shaadi band songs.

Two things stand out. It spans about thirty years without caring, from Saat Samundar in 1992 to Gadar 2 in 2023. And roughly a fifth of it is Marathi, which is not an accident — more on that below.

The band and the DJ are playing different jobs

A modern baraat usually has both, and they are not competing.

The brass band plays melody. A tuba, two or three trumpets, a clarinet, a bass drum, all in matching uniforms, and their whole repertoire is film songs with a strong singable tune — Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare, Main Nikla Gaddi Leke, Mehbooba. Anything built on production rather than melody is useless to them, because a trumpet cannot play a synth patch.

The DJ plays energy. That is where Kala Chashma, Daru Badnaam and Aata Majhi Satakli come in — tracks that live on their drop rather than their tune.

So the opinion worth stating: a baraat playlist is really two playlists that have to share a street. The good ones alternate, because forty minutes of solid brass exhausts a crowd and forty minutes of solid DJ makes the band redundant, and the band is being paid either way.

Why there is so much Marathi on this list

Zingaat, Kombdi Palali, Khanderaya Zali Mazi Daina, Dolby Walya, Udhal Ho, Bol Main Halgi Bajau Kya. That is a serious Marathi block for a playlist labelled simply "baraat".

It reflects where the playlist was assembled. In Maharashtra a wedding procession without Zingaat is genuinely unusual, and the Marathi DJ scene — halgi rhythms, dhol mixes, tapori edits — has its own deep repertoire that rarely crosses over nationally.

If you are north of that, swap those six for Punjabi and the structure still holds. The regional block always exists; only its contents change.

The rule of thumb

If a brass band could play it and a nine-year-old already knows the chorus, it belongs in a baraat. That single test explains why this repertoire changes so slowly, and why a song from 1998 still outperforms most of what came out last year.

Straight answers

What songs are played in a baraat?

High-tempo Bollywood dance tracks, Punjabi bhangra numbers and, in Maharashtra, Marathi DJ songs. Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare, Main Nikla Gaddi Leke, London Thumakda, Kala Chashma, Gallan Goodiyaan and Zingaat appear on almost every one. Full list above.

Is this baraat songs playlist free?

Yes. The player at the top of this page streams free in your browser on desktop and mobile. There is no account, no sign-up and nothing to download.

What is a shaadi band?

A wedding brass band in matching uniforms that leads the groom's procession, playing film songs on trumpets, tuba, clarinet and bass drum, usually with a dhol player alongside. Bands are hired by the hour and often walk the entire route.

What makes a good baraat song?

A tempo you can walk and dance to at once, a chorus everyone already knows, and a melody a brass band can actually play. A song that depends on studio production will not survive being played on a trumpet in a street.

Why do baraat playlists mix Bollywood, Punjabi and Marathi?

The crowd is mixed and the procession is long. Bollywood carries the widest recognition, Punjabi tracks lift the energy, and regional songs land hardest with local guests. In Maharashtra a baraat without Zingaat is unusual.

How many songs does a baraat need?

More than people expect. A procession can take two or three hours to cover a short distance, so fifty to sixty tracks is realistic — roughly the size of this playlist.

Can I play these wedding songs on my phone?

Yes. The player is built for mobile as well as desktop, and the artwork switches to a portrait version on phones. Keep the tab open and it keeps playing.

What are the tube lights carried in a baraat?

Portable chandeliers — frames of fluorescent tubes carried on the head and wired to a generator trolley pushed behind the procession. They exist because baraats happen after dark and predate reliable street lighting.
